I chose to select a series of photos from my kayaking trip on Lake Champlain. This trip is important to me because I have been an outdoorsman since I was little, and I have always wanted to go on a long trip in the wilderness. Through this trip my passion for hiking and exploring the wilderness in general was strongly intensified. In the pictures, I really tried to capture the magnificence of nature. Much of America has become industrialized and/or urbanized so it is comforting to know that places like the ones displayed above still exist. Visually, I arranged the pictures so they generally followed the story of first arriving at our campsite on Lake Champlain, then I put the images of the natural landscapes and of the beetle which I found dead but completely intact, and finally a manmade cairn and the games we brought. What I enjoy about these pictures is that the lighting is all natural (obviously), so the photos are completely organic and there is very little editing because I really liked how the original photographs came out. My series is unified by the subject matter because they are all pictures of my trip and of nature. Also I think the colors in each photo unifies them because there are mostly grays and greens and some blue. I enjoyed making a photo essay describing my trip and hopefully I will be able to collect more photos from future trips.
